Hello and Welcome!

Hey there!

Welcome to the brand new University Organizing Center blog! We’re just getting started, but our goal is to make this blog into an accessible space for updates and information about the University Organizing Center as well as a forum for news and discussion about student organizing and activism more generally. We hope you’ll keep checking back!

But first, just what is the University Organizing Center?

The UOC is a space located at 190 High St, on the main floor.  It was established after a wave of powerful activism in the spring of 2004. This wave of activism lead to the creation of 200 Church, Korean House, Turath House and an Anti-Oppression Center, which soon became the University Organizing Center we have today! The UOC’s mission is to provide a space for students to engage in organizing and activism work that fights multiple oppressions. Notably, the University Organizing Center is a student controlled space, so our power is in our own hands.

The University Organizing Center has a lot to offer, including: an anti-oppression library, several meeting rooms (ranging from big comfy couches to conference room-style tables and chairs), a zine library, office and storage spaces your group can use and a variety of other resources, games and supplies. Even better, we’re constantly looking to make it a more accessible and useful space for students and student groups so if you have any requests for supplies or books, ideas to improve the space or thoughts for events, please send me an email at mmcguire@wesleyan.edu or give me a call at (614)390-1975. I’m here to help make the University Organizing Center YOUR SPACE.
